Stuff I Saw Today
Had a couple of GCN rehearsals, and went to the UR – Rhode Island game at Robins Stadium. Here’s some of the stuff I saw.
GCN – Auditions weekend
Last week, we had the “kickoff” for this year’s Glorious Christmas Nights show at West End Assembly of God (WEAG). That’s where they introduce this year’s show, and the leadership in various aspects of the production: the producer and director, choreographer, set and prop teams, and tech crew. Aspiring actors, singers, and dancers are invited [...]
Pine Forest Trip: Mom’s Birthday, and some fishing
We headed out to Pine Forest yesterday to celebrate my Mom’s birthday. Which one was it? You’ll have to ask her… We had dinner with her and my siblings John and Stacey, and their families – had some cake and ice cream, and did a little fishing. Mom serves up some cake and ice cream: [...]
Johann’s Sweet-Hot Pepper Relish – How do you make that stuff?
My Mom has been a canner/preserver for as long as I can remember She and my Dad have been inveterate garden-keepers for almost as long as they were husband and wife. Mom grew up on a farm, where keeping a large garden was just one element of her family’s near-complete self sufficiency. Each year’s harvest [...]
Dootnie vs. Cancer: The show must go on…
Image by nimboo via Flickr Five days, thirteen hours, and six minutes. That’s how long it’s been (at the start of this writing, anyway) since my Dad passed from this place to a better one. Our faith in God gives us assurance that this is so. Our faith in God also assures us that he [...]
Dootnie vs. Cancer: One
Image of Franklin L. Reid Note: I’m writing this series of posts for two reasons: to fill the gap left when Dad couldn’t write on his own blog anymore (privately followed by our family and friends, it was his way to communicate what was going on with his chemotherapy treatments); and, because I can’t think [...]
What happens when the alternator dies…
We got what will be a well-remembered lesson in what happens when the alternator in a vehicle dies. Debbie, Lindsey, and I (and Bob the dog) were heading up to my parents’ place in Nottoway County yesterday to cut their grass. My Dad has been getting chemo treatments for the past 9 weeks, and has [...]
A nice day on the Piankatank
All of us Reids took a drive down to Deltaville today We spent the day with the Eacho family (Lindsey’s boyfriend’s family). It was hot today, but the breezes off the water made it bearable, even enjoyable to be on the river. They have a great place there at Fishing Bay, on the north shore [...]
Funerals and graduations – beginnings and endings
The last couple of weeks have been eventful. Our family has seen events sad and joyful, of beginnings and endings physical and metaphorical. My Dad’s youngest brother passed away, and my oldest child, Lindsey, graduated from college. Normally, either of these events would warrant an individual post. The strange juxtaposition of sadness and joy, and [...]
