Should it be a suspending offense -or a criminal offense- to carry a BB gun in your car? The school district had suspended him for a day when some pants-wetting parent noticed he had a BB gun in his car, which wasn’t even parked on campus. Now, they say they won’t “discipline” him. Doesn’t suspending him from school for a day constitute discipline? Also, the local cops are going to charge him with a misdemeanor for having the “weapon” in the car. I read the statute they referenced in the article, and it seems to refer to concealing a weapon on or about your person. I’m not a lawyer, so I don’t know for sure. The interpretation of these words will be up to a judge somewhere. It didn’t seem to me like he was trying to conceal anything. Hope he has a good lawyer so these yokels don’t end up making an “example” of him.

The newly formed fencing club at North Dakota State University NDSU cannot practice on campus thanks to the university’s weapons policy.

This has to rank up there with the dumbest school policies ever to be proposed. The people that made this decision should be brought to the public square of their town and mocked – and then touched.

You’ve probably heard about this story already. Erin Cox decided to help a friend who was too drunk to drive home by picking her up and taking her home.
For her efforts, Erin was demoted from captain of the volleyball team, and suspended from playing for five games. Police who busted kids at the drinking party determined that she had no alcohol, and had not been drinking. She was simply helping her friend.

Zero Tolerance Lunacy: 15 Year-Old Kills Himself after ‘facing expulsion and being put on sex offender registry’ for H.S. Streaking Incident
By marfdrat on October 11, 2013
This is incredibly sad. Instead of using some common sense and telling him that was not such a good thing to do – or maybe even suspending him to teach him a lesson – the school decided that he should face a hearing to decide if CRIMINAL CHARGES should be filed against him for streaking at a high school football game. He faced the possibility of being placed on the Alabama sex offender registry – for streaking. Maybe not the smartest thing a teenager ever did, but certainly not worthy of a punishment severe enough that the kid wanted to kill himself.

This defies every kind of logic you can muster. He didn’t even bring them IN to the school building; they were in his car. This kid could face 10 years in prison for having a filet knife in his FISHING BOX.

It was the size of a quarter (see the picture nearby). His mom said he didn’t understand the whole zero tolerance policy – he does now. He will probably understand soon that many school administrators are idiots. He will also understand that some of his panty-waisted classmates (like the one who reported the tiny plastic gun) have been successfully indoctrinated into the brotherhood of idiotic non-commonsense policy followers.

O. M. G. You’re kidding, right? No, they’re not kidding. Lunacy continues to run roughshod over common sense.
One of the first lessons one learns in English class is that context is everything. The same holds true in Spanish.

It seems there is no longer any common sense; only strict adherence to an inflexible set of idiotic rules.
A 10-year-old California boy was suspended and threatened with expulsion after he brought a Swiss Army Knife on a week-long school school camping trip.

That’s right. A student sees another student pointing a gun at a third kid’s head. He wrestles the gun away from the potential shooter, stopping a possible horrible incident. All THREE of the students were suspended the next day, including the potential victim and the kid who wrestled the gun away, for being involved in a “gun incident.” What the hell is wrong with this picture?

The thing was plastic and had one of those orange tips on the end of the barrel. Yet, overreacting administrators decided that the police should be involved in this grave threat to the safety of the other students. I think Glenn Reynolds’ assessment is accurate: sending your kids to public school is looking more and more like parental malpractice. (via Instapundit)

Another shining example of how common sense has departed from the minds of school administrators everywhere. Perhaps as troubling as the idiocy of the administrators to skip a teaching moment in favor of strict adherence to policy is the fact that they were squealed on by another student. Parents of the zero-tolerance age are teaching their kids to be idiots too. What kid reports his little friend for using his finger to be a pretend gun?

There was a time when cooler heads, and common sense would have prevailed and the school could have called the mother to explain to her son that he can’t make politically incorrect statements or gestures in certain places. I love how the school described his completely boy-like behavior as a “serious incident” where he “threated to shoot a student” – with his finger. Idiots.
