There was a time when cooler heads, and common sense would have prevailed and the school could have called the mother to explain to her son that he can’t make politically incorrect statements or gestures in certain places. I love how the school described his completely boy-like behavior as a “serious incident” where he “threated to shoot a student” – with his finger. Idiots.
The child, who attends school in Silver Spring, Maryland, was given a one-day suspension after the incident, which took place a week after the US massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.
Robin Ficker, the boy’s lawyer, said that the child was suspended after he made a gun with his hands, pointed it at another student and said “pow”.
“What they’re doing is looking at the worst possible interpretation of a young, naive six-year-old,” Mr Ficker said. “This is a little child who can’t form the intent to do anything like that.”
However, a letter sent from the headteacher of the school, Roscoe R. Nix Elementary, to the boy’s parents, said that this was not the first time the boy had been involved in such an incident.
According to the Washington Examiner, the principal Renee Garraway’s letter said: “Your son … was involved in a serious incident [He] threatened to shoot a student. He was spoken to earlier today about a similar incident.”
