Thanks, Joseph. All things being equal, I think the Volt is an interesting concept. Unfortunately, all things are not equal when it comes to the Volt. My main beef with it is the massive amounts of federal spending that has propped up the manufacture and sales of these vehicles. I’d much rather see if the Volt could succeed on its own, without the government intervention. My suspicion, at the prices they have to charge, is that it could not. Even with the subsidies and rebates, they only sold about 6,000 of a projected 10,000 units last year. Even with those sales numbers, GM was estimating they’d sell 60,000 Volts in 2012 – that’s completely delusional.

Now, the Petulant Boy-King Obama is talking about subsidizing the sale of these things with 10,000 taxpayer-funded dollars. That’s crazy, and it’s nothing but a transfer of wealth from middle class peons like me to wealthier folks who can afford to buy a Volt (last info I saw http://dailycaller.com/2012/02/13/obama-hikes-subsidy-to-wealthy-electric-car-buyers/ said the average Volt purchaser made about $170,000 per year). I’m all for great ideas that can move us to a less petroleum-dependent future, but we’re a long way off from that.

How about some input from an actual Volt owner. I get 80+ miles per gallon and with a 240Volt Charger I can completely charge my volt from a depleated battery in less than 4 hours. The only way I’ve ever experienced 25 miles in a charge is when I’m driving like a maniac breaking and accelerating hard. However, if I’m conservative in my breaking and accelerating I can milk 40-50 miles to a charge. Following this biased reporting, there has been an email circulating with really bad math referencing Bolling’s reporting for credibility. It’s already been debunked.
