Newt Blasts CNN Debate Moderator John King for “Despicable…Trashy” Debate Question

This is awesomeness. The more I hear Newt Gingrich in debates, the more I like him. Sure, he’s got flaws, but which of the candidates doesn’t? From Mediaite:

Republican hopeful Newt Gingrich excoriated CNN’s John King at Thursday’s South Carolina debate for asking if the former Speaker of the House wanted to respond to the allegations by Gingrich’s ex-wife that he had asked her for an “open marriage.”

“No, but I will,” a visibly angered Gingrich fumed. “I think the destructive vicious negative nature of much of the news media makes it harder to govern this country, harder to attract decent people to run for public office. I’m appalled you would begin a presidential debate on a topic like that.”

I have to admit, if anyone knows despicable and trashy, it’s Newt.

Now you can say this is a cheap shot. So it taking on King for a question that he virtually had to ask. Gingrich has built the successful part of his campaign on attacks on the news media. (He- or his SuperPAC) were less successful with their factually challenged attacks on Romney and Bain Capital.)

The adultery/open marriage/why did you dump another sick wife question was not an attack, it was a gift. Politics is theater, and there is no bigger (or smarter) ham than Gingrich.
