NC Democrat Governor Beverly Perdue says she was joking; using a bit of hyperbole to make a point.
As a way to solve the national debt crisis, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue recommends suspending congressional elections for the next couple of years.
“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,” Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, N.C., according to the Raleigh News & Observer. “I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”
Perdue said she thinks that temporarily halting elections would allow members of Congress to focus on the economy. “You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things,” Perdue said.
I say there’s a grain of truth in every joke. Let’s say folks in this country were stupid enough to take that suggestion, and suspend elections for one or two cycles. Congressional elections get held every two years, so that would be four years that they didn’t need to worry about re-election campaigns or any of that. Does Governor Perdue think that having Obama, the media and the rest of the libs in Congress hammer on the Republicans to “get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things” would solve anything?
The reason for the “partisan bickering” is there is a huge divide between competing philosophies about how to “fix” things. Perdue and her ilk believe that if those stupid belligerent Republicans would just “reach across the aisle” the Dems could accomplish some more of their economy and country-wrecking agenda. The reason Republicans don’t go along with them is their agenda IS NOT WORKING, and it CANNOT WORK. You can keep throw “stimulus” money down the toilet, and adding to the mountain of debt we already can’t repay, and it’s NOT GOING TO WORK to fix the economy.
Wanna fix the economy? Hold those elections, and sweep (zer0)bama and his legions of progressive dufuses out of office. Only then will we begin to fix the problems. The libs can scream bloody murder about how “unfair” it all will be, but lowering tax rates on individuals and corporations, and cutting spending is the only way we’re going to dig out of this hole that The Petulant Boy-King is working so diligently to dig.
Perdue’s suggestion can’t work with the Congress constituted as it is now. Elections will start the pendulum swinging the other way. About that grain of truth: the Dems would love to open a crack to suspending elections when it was “really justified” – this is how societies that were once free slide down the slippery slope to tyrannical regimes run by power-crazy autocrats. I’m sure they’d love to install the Zero as dictator, so they could finally “get some things done.” Hell, he’s already wondered aloud to us about how he could get a lot more done if we were like China.
