Update: Well, that certainly didn’t last long. Today, the Illinois Supreme Court issued a stay that allows Emanuel to stay on the ballot. You had to know he’d find a way.
An Illinois Appellate court has decided in a 2 to1 vote that Rahm Emanuel -who quit his job as White House Chief of Staff to Obama (*DfOaLG) to run for Mayor- is not eligible to be on the ballot. The court decided that he does not meet the residency requirements, despite two previous rulings to the contrary, by the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners and a Cook County judge.
Wonder what the Rahmanator will do with all of his newly-found spare time?
Actually, it’s premature to think that he’s done – the election is in four weeks, and his name’s probably already on the ballot, and in the hands of absentee voters -living and dead. Since he’s leading in the polls, and will probably capture more votes than there are people living in Chicago, he’ll challenge the ruling, and say they can’t deny him the Mayorship based on the technicality of not actually living there.
