Just when you think you’ve seen all of the stupid stories about zero-tolerance policies at schools, up pops this gem from Sanford, North Carolina.
Ashley Smithwick, a senior at Southern Lee High School, grabbed the wrong lunch bag on the way out the door, and accidentally brought a paring knife with her to school (yes, that’s it, all 2 1/4 inches of it). Though it looks like she’d have a hard time cutting an egg with it, the school system decided to suspend her for the rest of the year.
The school superintendent says they consider all the facts in the case, but apparently taking college classes, playing sports, and being involved in student government doesn’t diminish the risk of having her back in school. It’s true: zero tolerance equals zero intelligence.
NBC17 has the whole story.
Pajamas Media has a story on it, too.
