We left the hotel taxi stand at 6:55 last night, and arrived back in Glen Allen at 2:00 AM. Traffic wasn’t bad, except right when we came out of the Holland Tunnel. The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful – just long when you’re tired from three full days of schlepping around the city. We saw the great stuff the city has to offer, and my Mom had a good time on her first trip to the city in 51 years.
It has been nice to be blissfully unaware of what’s going on in the world, and just focusing on having a good time with my family. Even if I had time or wanted to do a couple of posts, I couldn’t: the Crowne Plaza (which was otherwise great) charged $9.95 for WiFi access – not for a day; just four hours. Ridiculous. Our backup plan was to use the MyWi app on my iPhone, but that was a big fail. We were on the 17th floor of the hotel, and I swear they had some kind of jammer going – could not get internet access, despite having a four-bar 3G connection. Or it could have just been the teeming millions that inhabit the city at Christmas, overloading AT&T’s network. We were generally able to make calls, but the internet access was sketchy.
Anyway – we’re back, and trying to get reacquainted with normal world, and get ready for Christmas. More posts (and pictures) from NYC, and the regular assortment of stuff is coming soon.
