There’s no denying the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is a big mess, and it has impacted (and will continue to impact) a lot of people. Here’s a graph that puts the size of the spill in perspective.
Click on the image to view the full-size image. I find the bar titled “Every Year” to be interesting: 250 million gallons of oil are spilled every year around the world. This dwarfs the size of the Deepwater Horizon spill. Where does all of this oil go? Why don’t we hear about it in the media? Why is this particular spill so important, and so “disastrous”?
